      Both tests consist of four sections that assess the most important aspects of language: speaking, listening, writing, and reading. The TOEFL, however, is entirely multiple-choice, while the IELTS has a mix of short answers and essay questions. TOEFL’s internet-based exam can take up to four hours to complete, whereas IELTS is two hours and 45 minutes long. However, the IELTS may take more than one day because the speaking test with the instructor is separate from the other sections.
      IELTS is offered in More than 1,100 locations in 140 countries worldwide whereas TOEFL is offered around the world.
      IELTS takes 48 test dates per year whereas TOEFL takes More than 50 test dates per year
      The scoring scale of IELTS is Zero to 9 whereas for the TOEFL it is Zero to 120.
      As far as the average minimum score required by ranked US universities is concerned, it is 6.3 for IELTS and 78 for TOEFL.
